PexelsOur personal brands and our professional paths are intrinsically linked. During the workday, we don’t shut off who we are, where we came from or how we got there.

As busy professional women, many of whom have spent the better part of two years working behind screens, we rarely take time to reflect on what our personal brand is and where we want to take her next.

At North, we know there’s a special alchemy to working on a personal branding exercise with other people. Engaged conversation and an informed outsider’s lens can help us spark new ideas, see ourselves better and frame our accomplishments and goals in a whole new light.

Over the last few days at our NGAGE offsite — a two-day workshop in which professionals work on their personal brands together at a beautiful lakeside getaway — I learned so much from women whom I’d only known previously via email or Microsoft Teams.

Born of a goal to help each other grow professionally and think holistically about how food, health and wellness play in to achieving our career ambitions, NGAGE is a way to support our clients in their current roles and beyond by focusing on their personal brands. It’s about women networking and sharing tips and stories of our achievements and failures. It’s about building individual opportunities and furnishing even better agency-client (and friend) relationships.

There’s no substitute for the company, conversation and comfort of being with other amazing women in real life. It feels great to talk about our individual journeys and to laugh with one another — and most of all, learn how we can celebrate our individual goals and ambitions without sacrificing our personal passions. If I didn’t appreciate the impact of this face-to-face workshop before, I sure do now. It can be hard to talk about ourselves, give ourselves credit or be vulnerable. It’s not like many of us in leadership positions have had permission to do that very often. That’s why it’s especially important to come together and lift each other up.

Big thanks to Jessica Myers, Jolene Sonshine, Young Lee, Shelly Walia and Sarah Louise Gardiner for accepting the invitation and embracing the assignment. I now not only know a little more about real estate, credit cards, blockchain, gaming and web hosting, but also sponsorship ROI, ghosts, Pantone colors and carbonated beverages in a glass bottle!

Our NGAGE offsite was a weekend workshop to remember. I can’t wait until the next one.
