12 Questions with North Strategic’s PR Interns

12 Questions with North Strategic’s PR Interns 1024 512 Jonathan Forani

At North Strategic, our PR interns are like celebrities to us. That’s why we gave the Vogue treatment to this most recent duo, Kayla Ferns-Hackshaw and Yarin Gurevich, who just wrapped their exciting summer internships this week.

But their time at North isn’t ending here. Recently, they took us on a tour of North’s new offices on Queen Street East where we got to learn a little bit more about their summer internship, their favourite parts of the Publicis campus, and what their plans are next.

Since 73 questions is a bit too many for busy agency life, we cut it down to a few essentials. Watch our condensed interview on Instagram read the full transcript below:

What’s a fun fact about this building?

K: A lot of North’s agency partners are here, like Publicis.

What type of accounts do you work on?

K: My accounts vary between food and beverage brands, health and beauty brands and grocer brands.

Y: My accounts range from the reale state sector, to electronics consumer industry, and consumer goods.

What’s a typical day in the life of an intern?

K: No day is ever the same. My days usually start with some social media work, then it goes into some monitoring, and it can be packaging up mailers, influencer work, all of the above.

Y: Every day is pretty different, but routinely would start with some monitoring, updating coverage trackers and then hopping on the projects for the week.

K: North has it’s very own in-house creative team, Notch Video.

What’s your favourite thing about working at North?

Y: North is super collaborative and a team-oriented place.

What’s one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned at North?

Y: There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Every brand and client is different.

What skill do you feel like you’ve developed the most?

K: North really helped me with my writing skills. I learned a lot more about media relations and about the Canadian media landscape.

If you could go back in time to your first day, what’s one piece of advice you would give yourself?

Y: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone is here for support.

K: Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to everyone. Everyone here is super friendly.

Where are you both going from here?

K: We both just signed Account Coordinate contracts starting September 1st.

Y: Thanks for letting us show you around, we’ve got to get back to work!
