After a year that brought DE&I into the workplace conversation more than ever, we’re proud to announce a ground-breaking new scholarship program in partnership with Humber College.
The Impression Campaign, developed by the college with the Code Black Communicator Network, puts scholarship funds in the hands of racialized high school students who face barriers to entry in the PR industry, including financial challenges that disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous and other POC Canadians.
“At North, we aim to make tangible, meaningful steps in our journey to diversity, equity and inclusion,” says Jessica Savage, CEO of MSL Canada, the parent company of North Strategic. “Helping to address economic and systemic barriers to our industry is a vital part of the process. We’re excited to support Humber and future PR talents in this important initiative.”
The scholarship is supported by research that demonstrates the need for action to support racialized Canadians interested in pursuing careers in public relations. According to a recent survey of 1,231 Canadians in the communications industry, nearly half of respondents reported working at PR agencies, while just 24 per cent of all respondents identified as BIPOC.
As we push for a more diverse, equitable and inclusive PR industry, look out for new internship postings here on our Blog and on our social channels.
